Festival de la Palabra

Otro cartel de 2003, éste para el Festival de la Palabra, que organiza anualmente la Universidad de Alcalá de Henares y cuya edición de este año está a punto de comenzar. Algunas curiosidades sobre el dibujo aquí.

Un libro, un compañero

Un cartel promocional que hice para Anaya en 2003 y que se pudo ver colgado en muchas librerías a lo largo y ancho del país.

"A book, a companion", a promotional poster I did for Anaya in 2003 and that could be seen hanging on the walls of many bookshops around the country.

Bassibus

Esta imagen, de 2004, fue el cartel y la postal de Bassibus, los tours dominicales que organizaba el gran payaso Leo Bassi a los sitios más corruptos y fachas de Madrid.

Poster and postcard for Bassibus, the sunday tours organized by the great clown Leo Bassi in 2004 to the most corrupted and fascist spots in Madrid.

La Laia

Hoy es Santa Eulàlia, patrona de la Ciutat Vella de Barcelona. Este es el cartel que hice en 2005 para las fiestas, que desde hace años se personifican en una niña llamada Laia (diminutivo de Eulàlia).

Waiting for Waits

En 2008 me encargaron el cartel del ciclo musical Waiting for Waits. Un ciclo increíble que nació en 2001 con la idea de su promotor, Tomeu Gomila,  de conseguir que Tom Waits quisiera venir algún día a tocar en Mallorca. Mientras tanto, todos los músicos que han participado aceptaban finalizar su actuación interpretando una canción de Waits. Ha pasado gente tan grande como Howe Gelb, Bonnie Prince Billy, Bill Callahan, Lisa Germano... Ese año, 2008, Waits actuó en Bilbao. Se le hizo llegar el póster a su habitación de hotel, pero no hubo respuesta. Hartos de esperar, el ciclo terminó en 2010. Aquí van el boceto, el dibujo original y el cartel terminado. Sí, le debo mucho a Crumb.

In 2008 I did the poster for the Waiting for Waits festival. An incredible festival that started in 2001 with the idea of its promoter, Tomeu Gomila, that Tom Waits might come someday to play in Mallorca. In the meantime, all of the musicians that came to the festival accepted to end their performance covering a Waits song. We've had such big artists like Howe Gelb, Bonnie Prince Billy, Bill Callahan, Lisa Germano... On that year, 2008, Waits was playing in Bilbao. A copy of this poster reached his hotel room, but there was no feedback. Tired of waiting, the festival came to an end in 2010. Here is my sketch, the final drawing and the poster. Yes, I owe a lot to Crumb.

Un cartel de 2003 para el Festival de la Palabra de Alcalá de Henares, del que estoy especialmente contento. Me di una vuelta por allí, aún sin ideas, y saqué fotos de la ciudad. Me impresionó la cantidad de cigüeñas que hay. En el viaje de vuelta di con la idea de las distintas tipografías de la letra a para representar la palabra escrita, la palabra impresa y la palabra digital. El tipo de arriba representa, claro, la palabra oral. La propia arquitectura de la plaza me sugirió poner rostro a los edificios. Hay ocho cigüeñas, igual que hay ocho remates de edificio en aguja, y veinticuatro personajes (tres veces ocho). Ya véis, soy aficionado a esconder cosas de estas en mis dibujos. 

A 2003 poster for the Festival de la Palabra in Alcalá de Henares, which I'm specially happy with. I went there and took photos of the town. I was impressed by how many storks there are. Coming back home I came up with the idea of different typographies of the letter a to represent the written word, the printed word and the digital word. The man on top stands for, of course, the spoken word. The architecture in Alcalá main square suggested me to draw faces in the buildings. There are eight storks, as well as eight buildings ending in a needle, and twenty-four characters (three times eight). As you can see I'm fond of hiding this kind of things in my drawings.

Festival Neotokyo 2011

Hoy termina en el Museu Es Baluard de Palma el festival Neotokyo. Este es el cartel que hemos hecho al alimón mi amigo Hendrik Dorgathen y yo.
